El actor no tuvo una infancia fácil. La escuela fue una experiencia desdichada para el joven Pierce que se abstraía de su realidad gracias al mundo de películas de Norman Wisdom, del Oeste y de héroes de tebeo, utilizando su talento artístico para dibujar historietas y representar sus propios cuentos.

Llamado desde muy joven a la interpretación, Pierce Brosnan dejó la escuela a los 16 años para intentar una carrera como artista comercial. Un amigo le introdujo en un grupo de teatro.
